Writing is essential for success in both life and professional careers. Do you agree? Maybe yes, maybe not, or perhaps you have mixed emotions. Although students are often interested in second-language writing, they frequently lack practice and experience. That’s why teachers must dedicate extra in-class time to developing writing skills, especially formal writing, as it can be a turning point in each student’s mastery of the language.

Why is it so beneficial to learn how to write? Are there any advantages at all? The majority might think that speaking is the most important aspect of learning English, but in reality, writing plays a crucial role in mastering grammar and spelling. Here at BLC, we follow the philosophy that the four basic communication skills in English—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—carry equal importance during the learning and teaching process.

Below are some of the benefits of active writing, not only as a skill or a certification-related task but as a transformative habit and, without a doubt, a way of life.

Writing is beneficial because it helps to:

  • Express one’s personality

  • Foster communication

  • Develop critical thinking skills

  • Make logical and persuasive arguments

  • Reflect on one’s ideas and re-evaluate them

  • Provide and receive constructive feedback

  • Prepare for academic and professional opportunities

So, it’s official—you cannot expect our courses to overlook writing or replace it with a speaking-centered focus. And believe me, you’ll come to love it!
